Maine’s Nonprofits + the Election: How Can We Get Engaged?

June 7, 2018, 9am-11am

With Maine's current governor termed out of office, the gubernatorial election in November 2018 will determine our state's path forward on numerous issues critical to Maine's nonprofit community. In addition, all of Maine's state legislative seats, one of our U.S. Senate seats, and both of our U.S. House of Representative seats are on the ballot.

501(c)(3) nonprofits are prohibited from supporting or opposing candidates for public office, but that does not mean they have to stay out of elections all together. Nonprofits can engage in issue education and Get Out the Vote initiatives. Join MANP's Director of Public Policy + PR Jenn Burns Gray for this special two-hour training on what types of election season activities are legal, plus a brainstorming session and conversation with colleague organizations about actions and potential collaborations.

This Program Will Include:

  • An overview of allowable 501(c)(3) issue education and Get Out the Vote activities during election season
  • A facilitated conversation with colleague organizations about actionable steps and possible collaborations

Who Should Attend:
Staff and board members of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations who are interested in expanding their impact through policy advocacy.
