The way in which the employee and employer relationship is demonstrated between the board chair and the executive director serves as the model by which the rest of the employees and the board understand and reinforce the work culture of a nonprofit organization. How governance and management view the Executive Performance Review process clearly portrays how a nonprofit, its board, and its management regard developing talent within their organization, rewarding good work, attracting and retaining vital human resources to advance the mission, respecting positional boundaries in a political and diverse work construct, and advancing an accountable environment for all.

Intended Audience: Board Members, incoming Board Chairs, other committee chairs, and Executive Directors are all encouraged to attend.

As a result of this course, participants will have the tools to:

  • Advocate for a year-round executive performance development and review process as the desired work culture for everyone in the organization.
  • Complete the vital steps to launch an accountable executive performance development and review process.
  • Employ best practices in completing a nonprofit executive's performance development and review process.
  • Apply these basic elements of talent development in other work relationships that exist in the organization.

About the Presenter:
Jeffrey Wilcox, Founder, President & CEO, Third Sector Company
Jeffrey is former Senior Vice President of United Way of Greater Los Angeles and Valley of the Sun United Way (Phoenix). He is the nonprofit columnist of the “The Third Sector Report” which appears in the Long Beach Business Journal. He is past Chair, Executive Transitions Affinity Group for The Alliance For Nonprofit Management, Past President of the Orange County (CA) Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a member of the board of directors of Advancement Northwest in Seattle. Named Alumnus of the Year in 2015 by Seattle Pacific University, he chairs the Executive Advisory Board of the School of Business, Government & Economics at SPU. Jeffrey is also a partner of Social Venture Partners in Los Angeles and Seattle and is an advisor to the Encore Fellows Program in Los Angeles.
