Cancer & Nutrition Distribution Coordinator

Christine B. Foundation

CBF Cancer & Nutrition Distribution Coordinator

Location: 304 Hancock St, Suite 1A, Bangor, ME 04401 & Remote

Schedule & Hours: 30 Hours/Week.

Wage: $17-$20

Background: Cancer is the leading cause of death in the State of Maine, with significantly higher rates found in Piscataquis, Penobscot, Hancock, and Washington counties. With an estimated 20% increase in cases of cancer from 2020 to 2021 (American Cancer Society), a growing population in rural Maine now faces the challenge to receive equitable access to care.

The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is a service-providing nonprofit based in Bangor building a community of support for those affected by cancer in eastern Maine. Through no-cost programming, patients with cancer, survivors, and their families can access nutrition assistance, navigation and referral coordination, and educational cancer conferences through CBF’s staff and community of 120+ volunteers and partners.

The organization’s namesake, Christine, was a loving mother, wife, and friend to many. At the young age of 47, she passed away from stomach cancer. Her family incorporated CBF in 2014 to support existing services and fill in gaps in cancer care for others facing cancer in Maine.

Cancer & Nutrition Distribution Coordinator: The CBF cancer nutrition assistance program offers medically-tailored grocery packages to patients with cancer, survivors, and their families. Often at a patient's first treatment appointment, CBF meets with them at the hospital or speaks over the phone to walk through a pre-built menu of food and dietary options to be tailored towards their preferences. Up to once a week through home delivery or hospital pick up, these individuals can access fresh, quality, food products to strengthen their immune system and fuel their cancer journey.

CBF is seeking staff to coordinate this program's supply chain. Currently, these roles are achieved by the CBFs executive director. This position requires a reliable and organized staff, to ensure product ordering, fulfillment, and transportation occurs without any interruption to a patient's treatment plan.

This position has significant room for growth. CBF is a fast-evolving, mission-based organization, fueled by innovation and community-based models. This position is a critical investment in both the work of this program but also for the greater purpose of the organization. This staff's primary responsibility will be to coordinate and work hands-on with purchasing, transporting, warehousing, and monitoring various food products from different vendors and partners.

This role has opportunities for growth in hours, position responsibilities, and leadership roles within the Christine B. Foundation. The staff will be responsible for working with CBF’s executive director, a program committee, hospital, and community partners, and the 120+ existing program volunteers to help sustain this CBF program.
