About Wild Seed Project:

Wild Seed Project is a Maine based non-profit in its third year of operations.  Wild Seed Project works to increase the use of native plants in all landscape settings to conserve biodiversity, encourage plant adaption in the face of climate change, and create pollination and migration corridors for insects, birds and other wildlife. Wild Seed Project collects and sells seeds of locally sourced native plants and educates the public on seed sowing to encourage a wide range of citizens to participate in increasing native plant populations. We have an interactive website www.wildseedproject.net and publish an annual magazine, Wild Seed.


Wild Seed Project seeks a part-time (30 hours per week) Director of Operations and Development to lead all day-to-day organizational operations, program and outreach efforts. The Director of Operations and Development will work closely with the Executive Director on all matters, but will have primary responsibility for execution of fundraising, operations and programs.

The successful candidate will be passionate about our mission and working in the non-profit sector, and have deep experience in development and donor relations.  The successful candidate also must be a hands-on participant in all organization activities and programs, willing to engage at all levels to execute our programs and operations with success. 

Responsibilities include:

Be a key representative and champion of Wild Seed Project at all events, including meetings with donors, conferences, seminars and other events.   
Donor and membership management:
Lead development of fundraising strategy and execution of same to meet fundraising and support goals;
Select and implement donor and member management software;
Develop and execute donor and member communications and engagement strategies;
Plan, organize and attend donor meetings and activities; and
Lead social media efforts, including posts to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., and assist with website.
Program Management:
Ensure program activities are properly supported (financially, volunteer, systems and software) for successful execution;
Oversee program volunteers and staff, notably Wild Seed editors, writers and others to ensure publication and distribution goals are met; and
Oversee event coordination, planning and on-site support.
Board Support:
Ensure Board is properly supported in all activities and meetings, including logistics, meeting materials and technical support;
Attend Board meetings as requested
Contract negotiation and management;
Develop staffing/volunteer plans and supervise staff and volunteers;
Risk management, including development and enforcement of policies and procedures, insurance selection and renewals;
Prepare annual budgets and ensure all operations are within approved budget parameters;
Work with the organization’s accounting firm to oversee accounts payable and receivable activities, prepare tax and other required filings; and
Administration of office systems to support efficient and organized operations.

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven track record of success in fundraising
Expertise in donor management software and systems
Expertise with MS Word, MS Office, Excel
Experience with online web services, such as Google Drive, MailChimp, Shopify, and social media platforms 
Experience in layout, design, and editing for printed publications a plus
Passion for our environment and interest in native plants
