Prevention Educator (Full Time)


Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine provides free services in York and Cumberland counties to anyone affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sexual abuse, through prevention programs, support, education, and advocacy. We have been providing services since 1973.

The Prevention Educator will develop and provide sexual assault education and quality prevention programs to schools and community groups in York & Cumberland County in Southern Maine. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, M-F.

The Prevention Educator position is accountable to the Education Program Manager.

  • Education and/or experience in a related field, including education, public health, or prevention efforts related to violence, community health, or issues with shared risk factors.
  • Understanding of sexual assault definitions and issues.
  • Experience working with youth and/or students.
  • Experience with curriculum development and/or violence prevention practices.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and to show initiative and creativity
  • Comfort with and ability to multitask.
  • Adaptability and love of learning.
  • Desire to be an active participant in an energetic team.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of sexual victimization and understanding of SARSSM mission.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Familiarity with Southern Maine community organizations, schools and social services.
  • Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursable).
  • Provide sexual assault education programs to students and community members in York & Cumberland County.
  • Assist the team in the development of sexual assault education and prevention curricula for students (K-College) and community members.
  • Assist in the facilitation of community educational groups as needed.
  • Assist in child sexual abuse prevention and response trainings for school staff.
  • Maintain relationships with school contacts while on-site.
  • Staff the crisis and support line on a rotating basis during the work day, including staff back-up rotations.
  • Assist the Executive Director and Education Program Manager as requested.
