Communications & Outreach Coordinator

Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault

The Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MECASA) is seeking a team member to join our creative, supportive, and energetic staff. The Communications and Outreach Coordinator is charged with guiding and implementing our strategy for statewide messaging on sexual violence prevention and response, as well as communicating the work of Maine’s sexual violence service providers and MECASA. Core responsibilities include issue communication, statewide media engagement, support for providers’ communications efforts and outreach programming. Our ideal candidate will have a background in communications or issue advocacy and will be excited about supporting MECASA and the local providers’ work through communications and outreach as well as about building programs and tackling complex problems as part of a dynamic team. MECASA represents and serves Maine’s local sexual assault service providers and children’s advocacy centers, and provides training, technical assistance, and support to a wide range of sexual violence-related partners and community members. Our efforts include initiating and advocating for victim-centered public policy; providing expert training, technical assistance, and resources for providers and partners; and funding sexual assault service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of sexual violence victimization, prevention, and response
  • Experience with Maine’s media landscape and best practices for effective media outreach, relationship building, and education
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated experience with various media platforms
  • Proven ability to engage with team and partners through direct, honest, and respectful communication
  • Commitment to intentionally seeking, receiving, and integrating the input of others 
  • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills
  • Strong computer skills, including comfort with design software and familiarity with web design
  • Experience working independently, while knowing when to engage team members
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in a range of settings through knowing the audience and their role as well as engaging in clear messaging. 
  • Skills to meet programmatic goals effectively and efficiently, including writing and proofreading, attention to detail, ability to manage multi-step projects as well as one-time tasks

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Director of Human Resources and Compliance

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Our organization is committed to work/life balance and supporting the individuals with whom we work. The position’s starting salary is $50,000. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, based on 40 hours per week. However, the number of hours a week is negotiable. There is flexibility to work remotely up to three days a week. We offer paid holidays, vacation, sick time, and a retirement package in keeping with industry norms as well as a flexible schedule. Individual health insurance premiums are currently paid 100% by MECASA. We offer generous paid family medical leave.
