The Mitchell Institute strengthens Maine communities by providing students a path to success in college and beyond. The mission of the Institute, established by Senator George J. Mitchell, is to increase the likelihood that young people from every community in Maine will aspire to, pursue and achieve a college education.

The Project Assistant supports the day-to-day functioning of a small but fast-paced office located in a thriving area of Portland. The position requires a flexible, highly organized individual.


Responsibilities

  • Process gift entries and acknowledgments

  • Maintain spreadsheets and databases, including data entry

  • Manage phone and mail

  • Assist in planning and coordination of a variety of programs and events

  • Develop and maintain connections with current and former scholarship recipients

  • Support volunteer committees, as needed

  • Participate in Institute events that may require some evening or weekend hours


 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Fierce proficiency in Excel and Word. Familiarity with all other aspects of Windows Office

  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to manage different tasks simultaneously and prioritize projects effectively

  • Flexible, well-organized and self-sufficient with strong accuracy and attention to detail

  • Interest in and passion for education
