Minority Outreach Specialist

Frannie Peabody Center

Program: Prevention

Hours per week: 20

Position details: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities:     

  • Develop positive working relationships with community leaders, business owners, organizations and groups to facilitate outreach, recruitment, and awareness of FPC HIV/STD services.
  • Provide HIV/HCV counseling, testing, and referral services, including regular evening hours, as required (e.g. testing events, walk-in office testing, testing cell phone appointments), and complete required data collection.
  • Provide HIV education and awareness targeting minority groups in Maine.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 Education and certification requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, experience in mental health or human services preferable
  • Proficiency in French preferable

Other skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, racial and ethnic communities, especially in Portland and Lewiston
  • Basic knowledge of HIV transmission, STDs, and Viral Hepatitis
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, follow-through, and complete project tasks in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and time management skills
  • Ability to work well in diverse environments and with diverse populations
  • Able and willing to travel offsite for business reasons
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours (especially nights and weekends)
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel.

Physical Requirements:       

      Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Other Requirements:           

Must be a licensed driver with a reliable automobile insured in accordance with state requirements.
